Jordon Lewis, Uriel Sanchez Killed after Wrong-Way Accident in Phoenix

 
PHOENIX, AZ (September 2, 2024) — 22-year-old Uriel Sanchez of Chandler and 19-year-old Jordon Lewis of Laveen died in a wrong-way accident on Sunday, August 18.
 
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the incident happened on Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway near Baseline Road at around 2:00 a.m.
 
Arizona DPS spokesperson Bart Graves said Sanchez drove southbound in the northbound lanes of the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway near Baseline Road. Then in a few seconds, he crashed head-on with another vehicle driven by Lewis.
 
After that, Sanchez hit a third vehicle that came to a stop.
 
Graves said that Sanchez and Lewis both died in the incident. The occupants of the third vehicle were not hurt.
 
Graves added that they believe impairment contributed factor. In addition, he said one of the drivers did not wear a seat belt.
 
Officers closed the northbound lanes of Loop 202 South Mountain at Elliot Road for more than eight hours. They reopened all the closed lanes at 2:00 p.m.
 
Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
