Tyriq Smith Struck and Killed by Vehicle on 610 Freeway in Houston

 
HOUSTON, TX (January 23, 2024) – The Houston Police Department identified 25-year-old Tyriq Mosley Smith who died in a pedestrian accident on 610 Freeway on January 14.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened near 1111 West Loop North shortly after 1:35 AM. Based on a report, Smith was a passenger in a blue Nissan Sentra driven by 19-year-old Chrishaun Dontez Johnson.
 
Police said Smith got into an argument with Johnson. He asked him to pull over before he got out of the car and ran across the freeway. Subsequently, a gray Mercedes Benz E400 hit him in the southbound lanes.
 
As a result, Smith suffered grave injuries and died at the scene.
 
Police arrested and charged Johnson with driving while intoxicated while the 45-year-old male driver of the Mercedes did not show signs of intoxication. Crews took him to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
 
As of now, the case remains under investigation. In addition, no other details are available.
