Single Car Involved in Fatal Accident on 5 Freeway in Cowlitz County

 
COWLITZ COUNTY, WA (December 28, 2023) – Officials confirmed that two Kalama residents died in a single-car accident on 5 Freeway on December 17.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened just north of Exit 27 at approximately 1:30 AM. Based on a report, the victims were traveling southbound on the freeway at the time of the crash.
 
Due to unknown reasons, their vehicle left the roadway to the right, went up an embankment, and hit a tree. Subsequently, the vehicle struck a rail car containing liquid propane before it came to rest on the shoulder of the roadway.
 
As a result, both the 33-year-old male driver and the 23-year-old female passenger suffered grave injuries and died at the scene. They were not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
 
At this point, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
