BAIRD, TX (January 23, 2024) — Two people sustained injuries after a speeding crash on the 20 Freeway on Friday, January 19.
 
Baird police said that at around 9:55 p.m., emergency crews responded to the mile marker 310 on 20 Freeway for a two-car crash.
 
The investigation determined that a Chevrolet truck traveled at a high rate of speed. It passed several other vehicles while on the shoulder of the road, traveling west on the freeway.
 
Then the pickup driver failed to maintain a single lane. The vehicle then collided with a guardrail. After that, it lost a front tire that struck a truck tractor towing a semi-trailer.
 
The Chevrolet had four occupants. Both its driver and front passenger sustained injuries. Paramedics airlifted the driver to a nearby hospital due to serious injuries. Meanwhile, an ambulance transported the front passenger.
 
Crews extricated one of the occupants from the wreckage. There are no reports on the condition of the other passengers in the pickup truck.
 
The driver of the truck tractor was not hurt.
 
The incident remains under investigation. However, reports said there would be filed criminal charges after the investigation.
