Fatal Colorado Springs Multi-Vehicle Accident on South Marksheffel Road and Drennan Road

 
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (January 31, 2024) — Two people died in a multi-vehicle crash on South Marksheffel Road on Tuesday, January 23.
 
According to the Colorado Springs Fire Department, the crash happened near the intersection of South Marksheffel Road and Drennan Road shortly before 9:00 p.m.
 
Officers responded to the scene and discovered three crashed vehicles. They said the first two vehicles were in a head-on collision. Then a third vehicle tried to avoid the accident in the roadway. However, the driver failed and still crashed into the first two vehicles.
 
Responding officers pronounced the driver and passenger of the first vehicle dead on the scene.
 
CSFD crews extricated the driver of the second vehicle. After that, they transferred them to the hospital in critical condition.
 
Paramedics rushed the driver and passenger of the third vehicle to a local hospital with minor injuries.
 
Detectives with the department’s Major Crash Team took the lead in the investigation.
 
As of writing, investigators said speed and the direction of travel were factors in the collision.
 
Authorities closed the road between Bradley Road and Space Village Avenue. The roadways reopened at around 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
