Jackknifed Semi-Truck Involved in Crash on 5 Freeway near the Maytown Rest Area in Tenino
TENINO, WA (October 4, 2022) – Police arrested two drivers following a semi-truck crash on southbound 5 Freeway on September 12.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened near the Maytown rest area at about 2:00 AM.
Based on a report, the driver of the semi-trailer missed the rest area exit. In an attempt to get to the exit ramp, he over-corrected and jackknifed the trailer. Then, the tractor wound up in a ditch facing north, while the trailer was perpendicular to the road. Subsequently, a southbound minivan struck the right rear of the trailer.
As a result, the impact ejected one person from the minivan. Paramedics transported the 31-year-old man and a 27-year-old Elma woman to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.
They also transported the minivan driver, a 31-year-old Aberdeen man, and the third passenger to Providence St. Peter Hospital for treatment
In the end, officers arrested the truck driver on suspicion of DUI. They also arrested the minivan driver on a possible DUI and vehicular assault charge.
