Tranquilino Sandoval-Guerrero Dies after Mattawa Car Crash

MATTAWA, WA (December 26, 2024) — 36-year-old Tranquilino Sandoval-Guerrero, of Mattawa, died in an accident on Tuesday, December 10.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the accident happened shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Highway 243, about a mile north of Mattawa.

WSP said three cars faced northbound on Highway 243. Two of those vehicles stopped in a row with the front vehicle preparing to make a left turn onto Road 23 SW.

Then the third car, a 2012 Ford F-250 driven by 32-year-old Dexter A. Christensen of Quincy, reportedly failed to stop. It struck the 1999 Honda Civic, waiting for the 2006 Dodge Stratus to turn. The impact forced it to the side and then hit the turning vehicle.

Both occupants of Dodge were not hurt. Authorities identified them as 20-year-old driver Sebastian Baltazar-Diego and passenger Santos T. Diego Cano.

Meanwhile, paramedics airlifted Isidro Ibarra-Birrueta, who drove the Honda Civic, to Confluence Health Hospital in Wenatchee. His passenger, Sandoval-Guerrero of Mattawa, died at the scene of the crash.

Troopers said that Christensen caused the accident due to inattention by using his cell phone while driving. They charged him with vehicular homicide.
