Jose Martinez Dead in Zapata County Accident

 
ZAPATA COUNTY, TX (December 26, 2024) — A man identified as Jose Martinez died in a two-vehicle accident on Wednesday, December 11.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the incident occurred at around 5:30 a.m. on Highway 83 near mile marker 740.
 
Texas DPS said the preliminary investigations determined a Chevrolet pickup truck traveled at a high rate of speed. Then it hit the back of a work van making a left turn into a private ranch for construction work.
 
Paramedics brought four passengers from the van to a hospital in Laredo. Additionally, they also transported two passengers from the pickup to the hospital. However, one of the passengers from the pickup died.
 
Texas DPS Sergeant Erick Estrada confirmed the identity of the deceased as 44-year-old Jose Martinez, of Zapata County.
 
Both vehicles involved in the collision were business vehicles that belongs to two separate companies.
 
Authorities continue to investigate the accident.
