Husband Tom Raymond and Wife Carolyn Raymond Killed, Two Injured in Avon Car Accident

AVON, CO (July 18, 2024) — A married couple identified as Tom Raymond and Carolyn Raymond died in a two-car accident on Saturday, June 29.

According to the Avon Police, two cars crashed just before 2:00 p.m. on the eastbound 70 Freeway, just east of the Avon 167 interchange.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, a Ford Escape was stopped on the right shoulder. At the same time, a Ford Bronco traveled eastbound on 70 Freeway in the left lane. Then the Escape tried to cross all lanes of traffic and make a U-turn through the median. That is when it collided with the Bronco.

Emergency responders from several agencies arrived at the scene of the incident. They later reported that two people died in the crash.

A Facebook post by Stephanie Thompson confirmed that it was her parents who died in the accident. “They were fantastic parents, but even better grandparents,” the post said.

Avon Police paramedics transported two injured people to Vail Health Hospital for treatment.

DOT says alcohol or drugs and excessive speed are not suspected as contributing factors in the crash.

Authorities closed the left lane of the 70 Freeway during the on-scene investigation.
