SPOKANE VALLEY, WA (June 13, 2024) — A 50-year-old WSP trooper identified as Tod Surdam and another were hurt in a car accident on Monday, May 27.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, the crash took place on the 90 Freeway under the Broadway Avenue overpass on Monday morning.
 
WSP trooper Surdam swerved and hit another vehicle because of a medical emergency. Then the trooper’s vehicle came to rest after hitting the jersey barrier in the median. Meanwhile, the other vehicle came to a stop after hitting the right shoulder barrier.
 
Emergency responders brought both drivers to the hospital for treatment.
 
The incident caused traffic to back up for miles.
 
The Washington State Department of Transportation closed all westbound lanes of the freeway just before 10:30 a.m. on Monday. All lanes have reopened.
