WINSLOW, AZ (April 9, 2024) — Three people died in a rollover accident on the 40 Freeway on Wednesday, April 3.
 
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, a vehicle with eight occupants crashed on the eastbound lanes of 40 Freeway in Winslow at about 7:30 a.m.
 
Arizona DPS said for an unknown reason, the driver went off the road into the median. After that, it overcorrected and swerved back into a lane. That caused the vehicle to roll over several times.
 
Authorities confirmed the impact of the accident ejected three people from the vehicle and they died. They described the deceased victims as a man in his 50s, a teen boy, and a 4-month-old baby.
 
Emergency responders transported five others to the hospital in critical condition.
 
There are no other vehicles involved in the crash.
 
Troopers continue to investigate to determine if the woman behind the wheel of the vehicle was under the influence.
 
Authorities briefly closed the freeway at the Little Colorado River. They reopened it at about 8:40 a.m.
