Thomas Kain Arrested after Major DUI Accident on Apache Trail

 
APACHE JUNCTION, AZ (September 12, 2024) — Authorities arrested 73-year-old Thomas Edward Kain after a DUI crash on Saturday, September 7.
 
According to the Apache Junction Police Department, the accident occurred at a restaurant called Elks Lodge, located at 2455 North Apache Trail, near Lost Dutchman Boulevard.
 
Police said Kain went into his truck to leave the restaurant. Then he accidentally drove into the front of the building at about 7:00 p.m.
 
According to the police, thirty people were hurt as a result of the accident. Ground ambulances brought ten of the injured to hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. One person was in critical but stable condition.
 
Meanwhile, fifteen others received medical treatment at the scene for minor injuries. In addition, police said at least five more people drove themselves to medical centers with non-life-threatening injuries.
 
Officers said alcohol was a factor in the incident. However, they did not disclose Sunday what charges Kain could face.
 
According to Jail records, Kain was in custody in Pinal County.
