Thomas Garrett Dead in White Center Hit-and-Run on Roxbury Street and 15th Avenue

 
WHITE CENTER, WA (June 4, 2024) — An 81-year-old man identified as Thomas Joseph Garrett, of Seattle, died in a hit-and-run on April 22.
 
Deputies said the crash took place near the intersection of Southwest Roxbury Street and 15th Avenue Southwest just after 10:00 p.m.
 
The King County Sheriff’s Office said that a silver-colored Jeep Compass struck Garrett and then fled from the scene. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Garrett and brought him to Harborview Medical Center. He later died from sustained injuries.
 
A few weeks later, detectives checked the area to identify the Jeep’s route following the accident. This led them to identify the license plate and a photo of the driver, who they described as a 37-year-old man.
 
Investigators arrested the driver on Thursday, May 16, during a traffic stop as he left a house in the Puyallup area.
 
According to investigators, he admitted that he moved his Jeep to Port Orchard, where he parked it under a tarp at the house of one of his family members.
 
They booked him into the King County Jail on suspicion of the fatal hit-and-run. His identity was not yet available because he has not yet received charges from the King County Prosecutor’s Office.
 
The investigation for this case is still ongoing.
