Thirteen Injured in Idaho Springs Head-On Collision on Colorado Boulevard

 
IDAHO SPRINGS, CO (February 1, 2024) — Thirteen people sustained injuries after a head-on crash on Colorado Boulevard on Thursday, January 25.
 
According to Idaho Springs Police, the accident happened at around 12:15 p.m. to the overpass of Colorado Boulevard at 70 Freeway.
 
Police said a black Mercedes Sprinter van moved east on the overpass. Then it crossed the double-yellow lane. After that, the van entered the west lane and crashed head-on into a Toyota 4Runner.
 
There were thirteen people, including the driver who occupied the van. Reports said passengers in the van were U.S. citizens from Iraq, who are residents of a 2nd Home Adult Community Center near Denver. The community center owned the van.
 
Reports said the crash caused twelve people from the van and the driver of the SUV to sustain injuries.
 
EMS rushed ten of the injured to St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood. All those patients were in stable condition.
 
Meanwhile, paramedics transported the other three patients to Lutheran Medical Center.
 
Authorities cited the van driver for careless driving resulting in injury.
 
Officials closed the Colorado Boulevard 70 Freeway ramps for a while following the crash. It has since reopened.
