Tammy Gibney and Chelsea Askew Die after Tyler Car Accident
TYLER, TX (September 24, 2024) — Mother and daughter Tammy Gibney and Chelsea Askew died in a two-vehicle accident on Saturday, September 14.
According to the Tyler Police Department, the crash happened on Highway 271 near FM 2015 at about 8:20 p.m.
Tyler Police said that 62-year-old Tammy Gibney and her daughter 39-year-old Chelsea Askew traveled northeast on Highway 271. In the back passenger seat was Askew’s 11-year-old child, Ryder. Then, a truck moving on FM 2015 pulled out in front of them, causing both vehicles to collide.
Emergency responders pronounced both Gibney and Askew dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, paramedics transported the child to Dallas Children’s Hospital in critical condition. His loved ones set up a GoFundMe to support his medical expenses. According to the page, Ryder shows improvement daily and they expect him to make a full recovery.
The truck driver also suffered injuries and medics brought him to a local hospital. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the truck driver and there are pending charges.
The accident is still under investigation.
