Francisco Munoz Jr. Dies after Wichita County Accident on Highway 287

 
WICHITA COUNTY, TX (September 24, 2024) — 24-year-old Francisco Javier Munoz Jr., of Wichita Falls, died in a crash on Friday, September 13.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred at about 8:20 p.m. on Highway 287, around 3 miles west of Iowa Park.
 
DPS said Munoz Jr. drove a 2009 Ford F150 northwest on Highway 287. At the same time, a truck tractor towing a semi-trailer moved southeast on Highway 287.
 
The preliminary investigation said Munoz failed to drive in a single lane. Then his vehicle went into the center median. After that, it went through the cable barrier and into oncoming traffic.
 
The truck driver tried to avoid the accident but crashed head-on into Munoz. Both vehicles continued southeast following the crash and came to a stop in the median.
 
The incident caused the truck tractor hauling the semi-trailer to catch fire.
 
First responders pronounced Munoz dead at the scene. The truck driver received treatment for minor injuries on the scene.
 
The investigation of the accident is still underway.
