SEDRO-WOOLLEY, WA (November 30, 2023) — A 35-year-old woman, Sharon M. Lane, died in a head-on crash on Highway 9 on Wednesday, November 22.

According to the Sedro-Wooley Police Department, officers responded to an assault report at around 4 p.m. near Greenstreet Boulevard and State Street.

As officers were about to arrive at the scene, the man who was involved in the domestic violence assault sped off in a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer. They identified him as 33-year-old Curtis C. Recobos with his passenger 24-year-old Brady J. Laws.

The Chevy hit a patrol vehicle while leaving the scene. An officer tried to follow the vehicle as it traveled southbound on Highway 9 and then lost sight of it.

However, officers later saw the Chevy had crashed head-on into a Pontiac Sedan just north of the Skagit River.

The Washington State Patrol said there were three people in the Pontiac: 41-year-old Bruno M. Vallejo, 35-year-old Sharon M. Lane, and an 11-year-old child.

According to the WSP, paramedics airlifted Vallejo to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. They also brought the 11-year-old to Skagit River Hospital. Lane succumbed to her injuries and died at the scene.

Paramedics also airlifted Recobos to Harborview. They also transported Laws to Skagit Valley Hospital. However, her condition was not immediately available.

WSP and the Skagit-Island County SMART handles the investigation of the crash.
