Sgt. Daniel VanHuss Identified in Fatal Accident in Terrell
TERRELL, TX (August 11, 2024) – The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office identified 37-year-old Sgt. Daniel E. VanHuss who died in a motorcycle accident on Highway 34 on July 18.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at North Frances Street around 9:36 PM. Based on a report, VanHuss, who had worked at the Sheriff’s Office for 15 years, was off-duty and driving his motorcycle at an unsafe speed near a curve prior to the crash.
Due to unknown reasons, he failed to maneuver the curve safely which caused him and his passenger, 31-year-old Alyson Hibdon, to swerve off the road. They then hit a median and the motorcycle overturned.
As a result, both VanHuss and Hibdon suffered grave injuries in the crash. Crews transported them to Baylor Sunnyvale. Medical staff then airlifted VanHuss to Baylor Dallas, where he later died.
Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
We offer our sincere condolences to the bereaved family and friends of Sgt. Daniel E. VanHuss.
