Sara Bassett Identified in Fatal Head-On Crash on Highway 97 in Toppenish

 
TOPPENISH, WA (June 20, 2023) – Officials identified 38-year-old Sara Bassett of California who died in a head-on crash on Highway 97 on June 18.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened at approximately 11:53 AM. Based on a report, Bassett was driving a Ford Fusion southbound on the highway at the time of the crash.
 
Due to unknown reasons, she crossed the centerline and struck a Chevrolet Silverado pickup that was traveling northbound.
 
As a result, she died at the scene.
 
The driver of the Chevy, 72-year-old Richard Lizotte, and his passenger, 76-year-old Cheryl Lizotte, suffered injuries. Crews transported them to MultiCare Yakima Memorial Hospital for treatment.
 
At this point, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
