PHOENIX, AZ (March 5, 2024) — A woman identified as 76-year-old Sandra Barbre died in a car and light rail crash on Saturday, February 24.
 
According to Phoenix police officers, the incident happened in the area of Washington Street and 10 Freeway just before 11:30 p.m.
 
Based on initial information, Barbre drove a black vehicle and she crossed in front of the light rail, which traveled west through an intersection on a green light. It ended in a collision.
 
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered two women in the vehicle involved in the incident. Emergency responders transported both to the hospital with serious injuries.
 
Medical personnel pronounced Barbre dead at the hospital. The passenger remains at the hospital and she is in critical condition, police said.
 
Police continue to investigate what caused the incident.
