Sambria Shaley Canty Dies after Wrong-Way Car Crash in Troy

TROY, TX (November 15, 2022) — 31-year-old Sambria Shaley Canty of Killeen died while three other people sustained injuries following a wrong-way crash early Tuesday morning, October 15.

The fatal accident occurred at about 4:30 a.m., according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Authorities said a 2016 Chevrolet Cruz driven by Canty headed northbound on the southbound lane of I-35. She ended up on a collision course with 2007 GMC passenger van, operated by a 58-year-old man from Duluth, Georgia.

This then resulted into a domino effect of crashes.

With the disabled Chevrolet on the road, a 2019 Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by a 25-year-old man from Prince Albert, Canada could not evade the vehicle and slammed into it. Several moments afterwards, a 2014 Toyota Tacoma pickup operated by a 66-year-old man from Plano, Texas, collided with the Chevrolet.

Respondents rendered aid to Canty, who sustained serious injuries. She received treatment at the Scott and White ER in Temple, where she died on October 17.

Three occupants of the Tacoma pickup suffered minor injuries, while the rest of the involved emerged from the incident unharmed.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. With pending toxicology reports, officials continue to determine the factors surrounding the collision.

No other information is available at this time.

Our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Sambria Shaley Canty.
