PHOENIX, AZ (January 16, 2025) — A 14-year-old boy, Rylei Williams, sustained injuries in a skateboard accident on New Year’s Day.
 
According to the Phoenix Police Department, the incident happened near 43rd Avenue and Vineyard Road at around 1:30 p.m.
 
Phoenix Police said Williams was on his skateboard on the way to visit his girlfriend when a vehicle hit him. Emergency responders arrived and then transported him to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
 
Celia Williams, Rylei’s mother, said Rylei who is an avid skateboarder and basketball enthusiast, suffered a traumatic brain injury. She said he also sustained multiple broken bones.
 
As of writing, Rylei still remains in the hospital. His family made GoFundMe to assist with medical and rehabilitation expenses.
 
Meanwhile, the female driver involved in the accident stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
 
Police confirmed that impairment was not a factor in the incident. There were no arrests made.
