Russell Smallwood Identified in Fatal Crash on Highway 385 in Dimmitt
DIMMITT, TX (February 26, 2024) – Officials identified 61-year-old Russell Smallwood of Lubbock who died in a crash on Highway 385 on February 15.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened in the northbound lane of the highway around 11:45 PM. Based on a report, Smallwood was driving a 2016 Ford F450 pickup southbound on the highway before the crash.
At the same time, 45-year-old Tranquilino Garza of Hereford was driving a 2021 GMC Sierra northbound. Both trucks were towing trailers. Due to unknown reasons, Smallwood traveled into the northbound lane and side-swiped the GMC pickup. His Ford and its trailer came to a rest in a ditch while the GMC jackknifed and landed in the northbound lane of the road.
As a result, Smallwood suffered grave injuries and died at the scene.
Garza was not hurt in the incident.
As of now, the officers are investigating the crash. In addition, no other details are available.
