4 Die in Skidmore Head-On Accident on Highway 359

 
SKIDMORE, TX (January 16, 2024) — Three teens and a young man died in a head-on crash on Highway 359 on Saturday, January 13.
 
According to Sergeant Harold Mallory with the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at about 4:30 p.m.
 
A 2006 Chevy Silverado drove northbound on Highway 359 towards Skidmore-Tynan with three teenage passengers inside. At some point, the Silverado tried to pass other vehicles on the roadway. After that, it hit head-on a 2021 Nissan Rouge that was driving southbound.
 
The impact of the crash caused the Rogue to go off the roadway. It ultimately came to a stop on the west side of the road. Meanwhile, the Silverado went back into the northbound lane after the crash. Then it went off the roadway and finally stopped in the grass on the east side of the road.
 
Authorities identified 17-year-old Roland Rain Saldana of Corpus Christi as the driver in the Silverado. They also identified 17-year-old Erick James Duhon of Sandia as one of the Silverado passengers. The other passenger was a 16-year-old girl from Mathis whose identity was not available. Officers pronounced all of them dead at the scene.
 
The driver of the Rouge, 21-year-old Jason Mikhail Balsom from Arlington, also died from sustained injuries. Paramedics also pronounced him dead at the scene.
 
An investigation into this accident is ongoing.
