Rodrigo Villarreal Killed after San Benito Bicycle Accident, Antonio Saenz Jr. Arrested

 
SAN BENITO, TX (January 25, 2024) — 59-year-old Rodrigo Villarreal of San Benito died in a bicycle crash on FM 732 on January 3.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, authorities responded to a crash on FM 732 north of Highway 281 at around 1:16 p.m.
 
An initial investigation shows that Villarreal rode his bicycle northbound on FM 732 Behind him was a black Honda Civic driven by 23-year-old Antonio Rogelio Saenz Jr., of San Benito.
 
Then the Honda crashed with the cyclist. The impact caused Villarreal to go airborne and land on the windshield of the car.
 
Emergency responders rushed Villarreal to Valley Baptist Medical Center where he died.
 
Authorities charged Saenz with criminal negligence homicide. Then they booked him into the Cameron County Detention Center. According to records, he is pending arraignment.
