Pedestrian Reyes Dorame Dies in Tucson Car Accident

 
TUCSON, AZ (April 30, 2024) — A pedestrian identified as 59-year-old Reyes Dorame died in an accident on Friday, April 19.
 
According to the Tucson Police Department, the incident involving a pedestrian occurred near St. Marys Road and North Shawnee Avenue just after 10:00 p.m.
 
During the investigation, authorities found out that Dorame tried to cross St. Mary’s Road at Shawnee Avenue in an unknown direction. Then a 2018 Chevrolet Camaro moving eastbound in the curb lanes truck him.
 
Responding officers said Dorame died at the scene.
 
The TPD identified the driver as a 23-year-old male. They said he fully cooperated with the investigation.
 
An officer from the DUI Unit also arrived at the scene. After that, the officer determined that the man driving the Camaro was not under the influence.
 
TPD said investigators discovered illegal narcotics in the pedestrian’s possession. However, medical records will determine if impairment was a factor in the pedestrian.
 
Authorities said that not yielding to a pedestrian in an unmarked crosswalk is a contributing factor to the incident.
 
The investigation is still underway. There are no issued charges or citations.
