Rey Mendez Killed and Ramon Parada Arrested after El Paso DUI Crash

 
EL PASO, TX (June 27, 2024) — A 25-year-old Socorro resident, Rey Mendez, died in a DUI accident on Sunday, June 9.
 
According to the El Paso Police Department, the crash happened took place near Cesar Chavez Highway and South Zaragoza Road shortly before 1:00 p.m.
 
The EPPD’s Special Traffic Investigation unit said 36-year-old Ramon Parada, of Socorro, drove while intoxicated. Then he failed to control his speed and ultimately crashed head-on into a metal pole near the intersection.
 
His passenger, Mendez, suffered serious injuries. Paramedics rushed him to a local hospital, where he later died.
 
Meanwhile, officers brought Parada into custody. Reports said he fled from Tribal Police before the accident occurred.
 
Authorities booked him into the El Paso County Detention Facility with an intoxication manslaughter charge and $110,000 bond. Jail records show he is a repeat offender and had two previous DWIs, one in 2018 and 2020.
