Retired Austin Police Officer Ray Shillito Identified in Fatal Leander Crash
LEANDER, TX (November 17, 2023) – Leander police identified 51-year-old Ray Shillito, a retired Austin Police officer, who died in a head-on crash in the 8600 block of Ranch Road 2243 on November 12.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened around 11:50 AM. Based on a report, Shillito was driving a Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on the road at the time of the crash.
Due to a mechanical or tire issue, a westbound Ford Excursion crossed the double yellow center lane divider and struck his vehicle head-on. The Silverado then rolled off the road.
As a result, Shillito sustained grave injuries and died at the scene.
The driver of the Ford stayed and cooperated with officers.
As of now, the case remains under investigation. In addition, no other details are available.
