Paul Samaniego Arrested, Man Fatally Injured in San Antonio DUI Accident
SAN ANTONIO, TX (September 18, 2023) — Authorities arrested 40-year-old Paul Samaniego after a fatal DUI crash on Sunday, September 17.
The San Antonio police said the crash happened at about 1:30 a.m. near Lockhill Selma Road and Wurzbach Parkway.
Police said a 59-year-old man on a moped tried to make a turn. Then an SUV driven by Samaniego struck the man resulting in fatal injuries.
Emergency responders pronounced the moped driver dead at the scene. His identity was not immediately available.
SAPD said Sameniego remained at the scene after the crash. They evaluated him and then arrested him for driving while intoxicated.
However, officials said Samaniego was not the cause of the collision because he had the right of way even if they found him impaired.
There are no reports of other injuries in the crash.
Authorities closed the intersection for several hours during the on-scene investigation.
