MARTIN COUNTY, TX (January 20, 2023) – Officials identified 27-year-old Rene Gonzalez-Martinez of Hobbs as the driver who survived a fatal crash on Highway 349 on January 16.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened around 1:30 AM. Based on a report, Gonzalez-Martinez was driving a car eastbound on the highway prior to the crash.
 
Due to unknown reasons, the car veered off the roadway and collided with a fence and a utility pole.
 
As a result, a 1-year-old child from Hobbs died in the incident.
 
Gonzalez-Martinez and a 29-year-old woman suffered injuries. Paramedics transported them to Midland Memorial Hospital in stable condition.
