One Dead, Two Others Hospitalized after Wrong-Way Crash on 82 Freeway

 
ELLENSBURG, WA (December 22, 2023) — One person died and two others were hurt in a wrong-way accident on 82 Freeway on Saturday, December 16.
 
According to Washington State Patrol, the collision took place on 82 Freeway, two miles east of Ellensburg, shortly after 10:00 p.m.
 
WSP said the Renton allegedly drove westbound in the eastbound lanes of 82 Freeway near milepost 1 in a 1995 Ford F150 truck. Then he struck a man who drove eastbound with a female passenger in a 2012 Hyundai Sonata.
 
The 40-year-old man from Wapato died. Meanwhile, his 40-year-old woman passenger from Wapato sustained injuries. Paramedics rushed her to the Kittitas Valley Hospital. Both wore their seatbelts.
 
The 57-year-old Renton who did not wear a seatbelt also suffered injuries. Paramedics also brought him to the Kittitas Valley Hospital.
 
Officers continue to investigate the cause of the crash. WSP said drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor.
