Car Racing Causes Fatal Crash on 5 Freeway in Stanwood

 
STANWOOD, WA (February 9, 2025) – Authorities confirmed that one person died in a crash on 5 Freeway on January 20.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened near milepost 212 around 1:00 PM. Based on a report, the 18-year-old victim was driving a silver 2012 Infinity G37 sedan before the crash. Witnesses said he was racing with a 2021 Dodge Challenger.
 
When the victim tried to pass a semi-truck on the left shoulder, he lost control of the vehicle. Subsequently, he struck the truck’s trailer and crashed into a ditch. The Infiniti then caught on fire.
 
As a result, the teen suffered grave injuries and died in the incident. Authorities did not release his name, pending notification of next of kin.
 
The driver of the semi-truck was not hurt in the crash.
 
Officers arrested the Dodge Challenger driver. They also asked for witnesses who have dash cam footage of the crash or the racing. They asked them to contact Detective Jeff Rhue at (360) 654-1142 or [email protected].
