One Killed, Off-Duty HPD Lieutenant Involved in Houston Pedestrian Accident on 610 West Loop

 
HOUSTON, TX (April 9, 2024) — One person died following a pedestrian accident on 610 West Loop on Thursday, April 4.
 
According to the Houston Police Department, the incident occurred at 610 West Loop shut down near Post Oak Road at around 2:42 a.m.
 
Houston police said an HPD lieutenant who works the night shift drove home in an unmarked city vehicle traveling north on West Loop. Then he struck a pedestrian on the West Loop near the Post Oak exit by the Galleria.
 
After that, another SUV struck the lieutenant from behind.
 
The pedestrian died. As of writing, the identity of the pedestrian is not immediately available.
 
Authorities said they have not yet determined why that person tried to cross 610 West Loop during the early hours of the morning.
 
Police said the off-duty lieutenant has worked with HPD for 14 years. They placed him on administrative leave while they conducted an investigation.
 
Authorities diverted traffic from the 610 West Loop to the Katy Freeway before they reopened the roadway at around 6:50 a.m.
