Fatal Pedestrian Accident on Highway 2 in Airway Heights
AIRWAY HEIGHTS, WA (September 3, 2024) — One person died in a pedestrian accident on Highway 2 on Thursday, August 22.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the crash happened at about 9:27 p.m. on Highway 2 at milepost 275, between Airway Heights and Fairchild Air Force Base.
According to the police report, the pedestrian walled eastbound in the lane of travel on Highway 2. After that, the individual suddenly turned north and crossed the westbound lanes. Then a 2019 Toyota Highlander in the right lane struck the pedestrian.
When troopers arrived at the area, they pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. The victim’s identity is not yet available pending notification of loved ones.
Authorities identified the driver of the Toyota as 18-year-old Ethan Schwartz, of Medical Lake. They also released the name of his passenger as 15-year-old Dylan Schwartz. Neither of them was hurt in the accident.
Authorities confirmed that impairment was not a factor in the crash.
The investigation of the incident is still active.
