Steven Berbaum Dead after Multi-Vehicle Crash in Florence

 
FLORENCE, AZ (December 26, 2024) — 52-year-old Steven Berbaum died following a multi-vehicle accident on Monday, December 9.
 
According to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, the incident involving up to five vehicles occurred near Hunt Highway and Oasis Lane at around 8:00 a.m.
 
PCSO said the situation began when officers received reports of a driver swerving on Hunt Highway. A sheriff’s deputy found the driver moments later. Then the suspect allegedly almost crashed with the deputy.
 
The deputy turned around for a traffic stop. However, the suspect crossed over into oncoming traffic, rolled over, and hit four other vehicles.
 
The at-fault driver suffered fatal injuries. Paramedics arrived and transported him to a hospital where he died. They later identified him as Berbaum.
 
PCSO said one of the other drivers sustained minor injuries.
 
Officials closed Hunt Highway in both directions for most of the day. They reopened it at around 4:30 p.m.
