Nathan Soto Dead, Another Seriously Injured after Solo Car Crash on 19th Avenue near Campbell Avenue

PHOENIX, AZ (March 8, 2024) — A man identified as 25-year-old Nathan Soto died in a solo car crash on Monday, February 26.

According to Phoenix police, the crash happened at about 10:15 a.m. on 19th Avenue near Campbell Avenue.

Detectives said Soto drove at a high rate of speed. Then he lost control of the vehicle after going over the canal crossing. His car eventually crashed into the utility pole, causing it to topple over. It then led to the power lines falling on top of the car.

Witnesses took Soto out of the vehicle before police arrived. However, they were not able to reach the passenger because of the downed power lines, due to the risk of electrocution.

After SRP shut down power to the power lines shortly after 11:00 a.m., firefighters freed the passenger out of the vehicle.

Paramedics rushed both men to the hospital with serious injuries. Soto later died. The other man remains in the hospital.

Authorities closed the area of 19th Avenue between Glenrosa Avenue and Campbell Avenue for several hours during investigation.

After the accident, over 900 SRP customers in the area were without power. All service has since been restored.

Officials continue to investigate the crash.

Our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Nathan Soto.
