Motorcyclist Killed after Semi-Truck Accident on Sunset Road in Las Vegas

 
LAS VEGAS, NV (July 26, 2024) — A 50-year-old motorcyclist died in a semi-truck accident on Sunset Road on Friday, July 12.
 
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the crash took place on Sunset Road and Jones Boulevard at about 5:40 a.m.
 
LVMPD said the motorcyclist traveled east on Sunset Road approaching the intersection with Jones Boulevard. At the same time, the semi tried to turn left from Sunset Road onto Jones. Then both vehicles entered the intersection as the traffic signal turned red.
 
The motorcyclist then slammed into the left side of the semi. Police said the semi went into the motorcyclist’s path of travel.
 
The motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries because of the collision and died at the scene.
 
The semi-truck driver remained at the crash. Police say impairment is not suspected in this crash.
 
Officials closed the intersection for several hours while they conducted an investigation and cleaned up the area.
 
Authorities urged motorists to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
 
The incident marks the 86th traffic-related death in the LVMPD’s jurisdiction for this year. The investigation is ongoing.
