Mitchell Reinitz, Ricardo Betancourt, Jeffrey Walker Identified in Alice Crash on Highway 281

 
ALICE, TX (July 31, 2024) – Officials identified 67-year-old Mitchell Reinitz of McAllen, 48-year-old Ricardo Betancourt of Mission, and 38-year-old Jeffrey Walker of San Antonio who suffered injuries in an accident on Highway 281 on July 15.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at County Road 129 around 2:45 AM. Based on a report, Betancourt was driving a semi-truck pulling a trailer southbound on the highway before the crash.
 
When the truck’s tire blew out, it tipped to its side and spilled its contents onto the highway. At that point, Reinitz stopped his vehicle to help Betancourt. Due to unknown reasons, Walker’semi-truck came and struck the overturned trailer, which then hit Reinitz.
 
As a result, Reinitz suffered grave injuries in the incident. Crews took him to a hospital in Corpus Christi, where he remains in critical condition.
 
Betancourt and Walker suffered severe injuries but are currently in stable condition.
