Matilde Herrera-Gutierrez Dies after Lamesa Accident on Highway 137 and FM 828
LAMESA, TX (September 25, 2024) — 34-year-old Matilde Antonio Herrera-Gutierrez, of Midland, died in an accident on Wednesday, September 18.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred on Highway 137 and FM 828 at around 6:45 a.m.
DPS said the initial information determined that 45-year-old Matthew Christy, of Lamesa, drove a Kenworth semi with a trailer southbound on Highway 137. At the same time, Herrera-Gutierrez drove a Ford F-350 eastbound on FM 828.
Then Herrera-Gutierrez ignored a stop sign on FM 828 at the intersection of Highway 137. After that, he struck Christy’s vehicle.
Emergency responders pronounced Herrera-Gutierrez dead on the scene.
Meanwhile, paramedics transported Christy to University Medical Center in serious condition.
There were no reports of whether Christy and Herrera-Gutierrez wore their seat belts at the time of the collision.
DPS continues to investigate the accident.
