Martin Velasquez Killed, Rose Johnston Arrested in Hit-and-Run Crash on Oracle Road [Oro Valley, AZ]

Martin Velasquez Identified in Fatal Crash on Oracle Road in Oro Valley

 
ORO VALLEY, AZ (August 11, 2023) – The Oro Valley Police Department identified Martin Velasquez who died in a hit-and-run crash on Oracle Road on August 1.
 
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at Hardy Road around 8:20 AM. Based on a report, 36-year-old Rose Leilani Johnston of Rio Rico was in the middle lane prior to the crash.
 
Due to unknown reasons, Johnston moved over to the right lane and collided with Velasquez’s car. The victim then crashed into a traffic pole.
 
As a result, Velasquez sustained grave injuries and died in the incident.
 
One of the passengers in the victim’s car had a fractured forearm and femur while another had fractured ribs and internal bleeding.
 
Police said Johnston left the scene following the wreck but she called police to admit involvement.
 
Officers arrested and booked her into the Pima County Corrections Center for leaving the scene of a collision causing death.
 
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
