Mark Mason Fatally Injured in Tucson Car Crash on East 22nd and South Cherrybell Stra

TUCSON, AZ (June 27, 2024) — A man identified as 52-year-old Mark Leonard Mason died in a car accident on Wednesday, June 12.

According to the Tucson Police Department, the crash took place near East 22nd Street and South Cherrybell Stra, shortly before 6:30 p.m.

Tucson Police said Mason drove a BMW west along East 22nd Street. After that, he began turning left onto South Cherrybell Stra. Then he crashed into a Honda Accord moving eastbound in the middle lane.

The Accord continued moving in the eastbound lanes. It resulted in the debris crashing into a 2013 Scion FR-S.

Emergency responders brought Mason to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The other two drivers were not hurt.

TPD police determined that the Honda Accord driver was not under the influence when the crash happened.

Police said Mason tried to turn left on a yellow traffic signal. They said failure to yield while making that turn is the major contributing factor to the incident.

Mason died on June 15 due to injuries sustained in the crash.

The investigation of this case is still underway.
