Mariah Enriquez Killed, Hugo Lara Arrested after DUI Crash in Port Isabel

 
PORT ISABEL, TX (June 17, 2024) — 20-year-old Mariah Desiree Enriquez of Edinburg died in a DUI wrong-way crash on Sunday, June 2.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the two-vehicle accident happened at around 1:45 a.m. on the Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway.
 
DPS troopers said 48-year-old Hugo Ernesto Lara, of McAllen, drove a 2023 white Ford F-150 the wrong way on the causeway. He was drunk and drove westbound on the eastbound lane.
 
Troopers said Lara slammed into a 2008 red Kia passenger car, driven by Enriquez, which moved eastbound on the causeway.
 
Enriquez suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
 
Meanwhile, authorities arrested Lara and charged him with intoxication and manslaughter.
 
Officers transferred Lara to the Cameron County Jail and arraigned him at 9:38 a.m. Sunday. They charged him with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and gave him a bond of $350,000.
