Three Injured, Maria Viurquez-Benavidez Identified in Fatal Head-On Crash on North Davis Road in Salinas
SALINAS, CA (May 30, 2023) – The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office identified 33-year-old Maria Viurquez-Benavidez of Salinas who died in a DUI crash on North Davis Road on May 27.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened in front of the Hacienda Mexican Grill at approximately 9:44 PM. Based on a report, the victim was a passenger in a white Dodge Journey that was traveling on the highway at the time of the crash.
At the same time, a 16-year-old was driving a silver BMW on the opposite direction. Due to unknown reasons, the teen lost control of the car, crossed the center median into oncoming traffic, and crashed head-on into the Dodge.
As a result, Viurquez-Benavidez suffered grave injuries and died in the incident.
A 31-year-old passenger in the BMW and the 44-year-old Dodge driver were also seriously hurt.
Police said the BMW driver’s blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit for an adult.
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
