Maria Marcelo Dies in San Jose Pedestrian Accident
SAN JOSE, CA (December 19, 2022) – 47-year-old community activist Maria Marcelo died in a pedestrian accident on Perrymont Avenue and Little Orchard Street on Wednesday.
Authorities received reports of a crash that occurred around 7:30 p.m. near Plant Shopping Center at the intersection. According to a Facebook post of Healing Grove, Marcelo was crossing the street when she was struck by a vehicle.
Santa Clara County coroner confirmed that Marcelo died at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
The crash resulted in further traffic delays. Residents of the neighborhood expressed complaints of both heavy traffic and lack of safety of the intersection.
