85-year-old Maria Kelly Killed in Car Accident in Freeland

 
FREELAND, WA (November 22, 2024) — An 85-year-old woman identified as Maria Kelly died in an accident on Friday, November 8.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, the incident happened shortly after 1:00 p.m. on Highway 525 near Bush Point Road.
 
WSP said Kelly tried to cross Highway 525 from Bush Point Road near Freeland in her 1998 Toyota Camry. Then a Chevrolet Tahoe SUV struck her vehicle.
 
Kelly died from fatal injuries sustained in the incident. The Harborview Medical Center contacted her next of kin.
 
The WSP said in a press memo that the two occupants in the Tahoe were not hurt. They identified them as a 37-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy.
 
Officers said it does not yet know if impairment played a factor in the accident.
 
All three people involved wore their seatbelts.
 
Authorities alternated traffic on Highway 525 for around three hours before they cleared the road and reopened both lanes.
