Man in Wheelchair Killed after Colorado Springs Pedestrian Accident on South Nevada Avenue

 
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (August 21, 2024) — A man in a wheelchair died in a pedestrian accident on South Nevada Avenue on Monday, August 5.
 
According to the Colorado Springs police officers, the accident occurred on South Nevada Avenue and East Saint Elmo Avenue at about 6:40 p.m.
 
The CSPD Major Crash Team investigated and determined the victim navigated his wheelchair across South Nevada Avenue in the crosswalk. Then a westbound vehicle struck him.
 
Paramedics transported the man to a hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries and died.
 
According to the police, the driver remained at the scene. Investigators do not believe speed and impairment contributed to the accident.
 
There was heavy rain in the area when the crash happened. However, authorities have not yet determined whether the weather condition was a factor.
 
As of writing, there are no arrests made in connection to the crash.
 
The accident is still under investigation.
 
The collision is the 35th traffic-related fatality in Colorado Springs this 2024.
