PHOENIX, AZ (July 13, 2023) — A man sustained fatal injuries in a pedestrian accident on Jefferson Street on Thursday, June 29.
 
According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to the area of Jefferson Street near 11th Avenue at about 9:00 p.m. A witness told detectives the man stood in the roadway, outside of any crosswalk. Then an SUV moving east on Jefferson Street struck him.
 
Officers then discovered a man with critical injuries. Responders from the fire department also arrived at the area. They pronounced the man dead at the scene.
 
Officials have not yet released his identity, pending notification of his loved ones.
 
The man driving the SUV stayed at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. Police said the driver did not show signs of impairment.
