Motorcyclist Dies After Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 165
MERCED COUNTY, CA (December 2, 2022) — A male motorcyclist died following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 165 on Monday, November 28.
The fatal collision occurred at around 4:04 p.m. south of Mervel Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Authorities said a 2019 Harley Davidson, driven by a 79-year-old man from Santa Maria, traveled north on Highway 165. It trailed behind a 2017 Nissan Altima operated by 30-year-old Eliseo Mendez, who drove at 60 miles per hour.
Mendez saw a dog in the road, causing him to make a full stop. As a result, the motorcycle slammed into the rear end of the Altima.
The force of impact ejected the rider from his motorcycle. He sustained major injuries and was transported to the Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto, where he later died.
Meanwhile, Mendez was not hurt.
Officials stated that the influence of alcohol and drugs did not appear as a factor in the accident.
