Mahmoud Abbad Dies in Reeves County Truck Accident on Highway 285
REEVES COUNTY, TX (October 30, 2024) — A 56-year-old Pecos man identified as Mahmoud Abbad died in a truck accident on Saturday, October 12.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the incident happened on Highway 285 near mile marker 342 early Saturday morning.
The initial investigation determined that a 2024 International truck went off the roadway. Then it returned and spun out. After that, it subsequently struck a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox, which caught fire.
Abbad, who was behind the wheel of the Chevrolet, died at the scene.
Meanwhile, the truck driver identified as 41-year-old Benjamin Raul Hernandez, of Midland, Texas, sustained minor injuries. Paramedics arrived at the scene and then brought him to Reeves Regional Hospital for further treatment.
Authorities said that both drivers wore their respective seat belts when the accident happened.
The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the crash.
