Luciano Chavez Dies in Speeding DUI Accident in Las Vegas

 
Las Vegas, NV (April 3, 2024) — A 38-year-old man identified as Luciano Chavez Chavez died in a speeding DUI crash on Friday, March 22.
 
The accident took place near Las Vegas Boulevard and Walnut Road, just north of Cheyenne Avenue, shortly after 3:00 a.m.
 
Investigators said a maroon 2017 Dodge Challenger traveled at 140 miles per hour in a 45-mile-per-hour zone on Las Vegas Boulevard. Then it crashed into a red 2014 Hyundai Accent that was turning from Walnut Road onto southbound Las Vegas Boulevard.
 
The force of the impact split the Hyundai in two. Chavez, who was the driver of the vehicle, died at the scene.
 
Meanwhile, fire crews extricated the passenger of the Dodge, a 29-year-old Las Vegas man. After that, they transported him to UMC with substantial injuries to his lower extremities.
 
Police identified 28-year-old Charlie Hernandez as the driver of the Dodge. He initially told authorities that he believed he drove on Craig Road to bring his passenger home because drank too much.
 
Authorities conducted a Field Sobriety Test, which Hernandez failed. After that, they brought him to University Medical Center where they screened him.
 
Then they placed Hernandez into custody.
 
Court records show that Hernandez posted a $50,000 bond on March 26. He is due back in court on May 28.
